Flavourcel makes most of our work on the Unceded Coast Salish territories which is the traditional and ancestral land of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations. We are aware and angry in the face of this country’s violent white colonial history; a history which continues to extend into the present where we practice our work. Since currently none of us are Indigenous, we try our best to decolonize our shared practice, whether it be sharing wealth, privilege, or resources.
This kind of social justice is something that is close to a lot of our hearts. All of us are members of marginalized groups–whether that be race, gender, sexuality, or ability. We are open to feedback and being held accountable to make our communities safer for everyone, especially those who have generally been left behind by our history books.
